Northern State University Welcomes Back a Familiar Face to Write Its Next Chapter
In a heartwarming homecoming, Northern State University (NSU) recently celebrated the arrival of its incoming president, Alan LaFave, during an open house on November 21st at the Kessler’s Champions Club in the Barnett Center. The event, as South Dakota Board of Regents Executive Director Nathan Lukkes aptly described, felt more like a family reunion than a formal introduction. LaFave’s journey with NSU began as a student, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music education. However, it was at Northern where he truly left his mark, serving in various roles including instructor, professor of music, department chairman, associate dean, dean of the School of Fine Arts, and provost and vice president for academic affairs. Even during his seven-year tenure as president of Valley City State University, NSU remained close to his heart. During the open house, LaFave’s familiarity with the campus and its people was on full display.
