The BBC is taking its groundbreaking new music platform, Introducing, to the United States, marking a significant expansion of its reach. In collaboration with the College Radio Foundation, the BBC will launch 'BBC Introducing in America' on Friday, December 5th, beginning with a spotlight on Tennessee's local artists and those from the UK. This initiative aims to provide a platform for emerging talent, with the first UK artist, Nectar Woode, set to grace the show after his previous appearances on BBC Introducing in 2022 and performance at the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury in 2025.
The Tennessee debut will be hosted by Sherleen Mwaura and Cade Beasley, seniors at the University of Tennessee's 90.3 WUTK, alongside hosts from Vanderbilt University's WRVU. Mwaura expressed her enthusiasm, emphasizing the importance of championing emerging artists and providing a platform for their voices. Beasley, equally excited, humorously recalled his disbelief a year ago at being part of this opportunity.
The program will air on various Tennessee stations, including 88.5 WVCP, WUMC, The Perch, WTTU, WETS-FM, WMTS, and WUTM. Kelly Betts, the editor of BBC Introducing, shared her excitement about this new chapter, reflecting on her role in launching original BBC Introducing shows and championing artists like Olivia Dean, Lewis Capaldi, and Tom Grennan. She looks forward to the potential of this expansion, nurturing and showcasing new music from the UK and the US.
Rob Quicke, the founder of the College Radio Foundation, highlighted the foundation's role in discovering and promoting new music. He believes this partnership will offer student presenters an exceptional and unprecedented experience, further solidifying the foundation's commitment to supporting emerging talent.
