Dartmoor's crown jewel, Bovey Castle, has once again claimed the title of Devon's top hotel, securing the 'Large Hotel of the Year' award for the third consecutive year at the prestigious Devon Tourism Awards. This achievement comes on the heels of a transformative year, marked by substantial investments and a remarkable surge in revenue. With £160,000 poured into facility enhancements, the castle has not only elevated its status but also set its sights on further accolades.
The Devon Tourism Awards serve as a beacon for excellence in the region's tourism sector, fast-tracking successful businesses into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards and, ultimately, the national VisitEngland awards later this year. Bovey Castle, nestled within 275 acres of Dartmoor's lush countryside, boasts 60 luxurious bedrooms and 22 self-catering country lodges. It offers a myriad of amenities, including Smith's Brasserie, tennis courts, the Elan Spa, and engaging activities such as falconry, archery, cider and sloe gin-making, and 4x4 off-road driving.
Recent enhancements include a new golf shop, members' lounge, and an all-weather driving range on its renowned 18-hole championship course, which has earned a spot among the top 100 golf courses in Britain. The castle's commitment to sustainability is further exemplified by its Gold Green Tourism accreditation, a globally recognized sustainability certification.
The castle's kitchen garden and wildflower meadow not only provide fresh produce for the hotel's culinary team but also serve as educational hubs for local schools and guests. This investment has yielded impressive results, with room revenue soaring by ten percent annually, surpassing £4.8 million, and a 68 percent surge in new users on the resort's website.
General Manager Dean Gunston expressed his enthusiasm, stating, 'Bovey Castle's achievements this year have solidified its status as a valuable asset to our staff, the local community, and the broader region. This award is a testament to the exceptional service our team delivers daily, both on the front lines and behind the scenes. From our net zero target by 2040 to creating immersive experiences like the deer park tour, we're dedicated to innovation. We have exciting plans for the future, and who knows, perhaps a fourth award is on the horizon!'
