FIFO Jeweller Julianne Karavitis: Custom Jewellery Remodeling in Kalgoorlie-Boulder | JLK Artistry (2026)

In a striking twist on the typical FIFO lifestyle, Julianne Karavitis, the founder of JLK Artistry, is redefining what it means to serve the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community. While many fly-in, fly-out workers flock to this mining town for their jobs, Julianne brings a refreshing alternative: the opportunity to create or redesign stunning jewelry pieces using exquisite materials.

Every six weeks, Julianne makes her way back to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, where she provides residents with the chance to craft or remodel their jewelry collections. The materials she uses are as diverse as Australia itself, featuring gemstones sourced from the Eastern States and gold nuggets mined locally in the Goldfields region.

Embarking on her entrepreneurial journey in 2020, Julianne initially established her brand while residing in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Even after relocating to Perth in 2024, she remained dedicated to her local clientele, recognizing the unique value she could offer. "After living here myself, I understand how important it is to have someone who can meet you at your convenience," she explains. "Traveling to Perth for services can be quite challenging, especially when bespoke design often requires multiple appointments. If someone is willing to bring that expertise directly to you, it becomes incredibly valuable."

Julianne cherishes her trips back to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, describing the community as exceptionally special. "I absolutely love it here; the sense of community is just wonderful. I also support several local charities that hold a special place in my heart, and I have many friends and family members living in the area. So, every six weeks, it feels like I'm coming home."

She strategically schedules her visits to coincide with major local events such as Diggers & Dealers, the Goldfields Children Charity Ball, and Christmas festivities. Her custom jewelry pieces have been showcased and auctioned at the Goldfields Children Charity Ball, an event she passionately supports and plans to attend again in 2026.

"Having lived in Kalgoorlie, I am acutely aware of the challenges faced by families, particularly when it comes to accessing medical care for loved ones," she shares. "The community has been incredibly supportive of my business; I wouldn't be making these trips if it weren't for that backing. It's important to me to give something back in return."

During her visits, Julianne dedicates four days to serving her clients, utilizing local boutiques or vacant storefronts for her pop-up displays. On her most recent visit, just before Christmas, she showcased her latest collection at Wanderluxe & Co on Hannan Street, where she enjoyed reconnecting with her clients. Gabby Catford, a sales assistant at Wanderluxe & Co and a previous client of Julianne's, highlighted the deep appreciation the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community has for her work.

"It's clear how much she means to the community; so many people come through her doors. Just the other day, a woman was overwhelmed with emotion after having a piece remade by Julianne. It speaks volumes about the significance of her craft and how fortunate Kalgoorlie is to have someone who truly cares for their heirloom items," Gabby remarked.

As for Julianne, she has no intention of halting her contributions to Kalgoorlie-Boulder. In fact, she envisions expanding her services to reach even more regions in the future.

In a world where community connections matter more than ever, Julianne’s commitment to blending artistry with accessibility stands out. What do you think about her approach? Is it the kind of service that other regions could benefit from? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
