In a stunning display of skill, Kawhi Leonard poured in 45 points as the Los Angeles Clippers triumphed over the Utah Jazz with a score of 118-101 on Thursday night, marking their sixth consecutive victory—an impressive feat for the season.
During the first half of the game at Intuit Dome, Leonard showcased his athleticism with powerful dunks, and despite suffering a minor injury that left a mark on his nose, he was unstoppable, matching the Jazz's output in the fourth quarter by scoring 20 points by himself.
Adding to this success, James Harden contributed 20 points, while the team's performance was bolstered by an extraordinary run of seven consecutive three-pointers, four of which came from Leonard himself. Nicolas Batum also played a key role, finishing the game with 14 points and shooting an impressive four out of six from beyond the arc.
The Jazz, despite missing three of their starters, made a commendable effort to rally back into the game. Kyle Anderson led the charge with 22 points—marking his first 20-point performance in almost three years—while Brice Sensabaugh added 20 points of his own. Anderson also secured a season-high eight rebounds, with Cody Williams contributing 18 points and Isaiah Collier recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists.
The match saw its share of tension and excitement, with six ties occurring during the third quarter when the Jazz finally took the lead for the first time. Initially, the Clippers dominated the first quarter, outscoring the Jazz 28-7. The Jazz struggled early on, missing their first six attempts and managing just one rebound within the first six minutes of play.
However, the momentum shifted in the second quarter when the Jazz outscored the Clippers 33-22, with Leonard scoring the Clippers’ first nine points of that period. By halftime, the score stood at 53-50 in favor of the Clippers.
It’s worth noting that the Jazz were without Keyonte George (due to illness), Lauri Markkanen (knee injury), and Jusuf Nurkic (toe injury), leading to their sixth loss in the last eight games. Interestingly, the Jazz managed to outscore the Clippers in the paint with a total of 58 points and had a strong showing from their bench, which outperformed the Clippers' reserves 51-40.
Looking ahead, the Clippers will face off against the Boston Celtics at Intuit Dome this Saturday.
