Shara Magomedov, known as 'Bullet,' has his sights set on a highly anticipated rematch with Michael Page in 2026, a year that could bring redemption and a chance to prove his worth. This desire for a second chance stems from a devastating loss in 2025, the first defeat of his MMA career, which left him hungry for revenge.
The original encounter between Magomedov and Page, or 'MVP,' took place at the historic UFC debut in Saudi Arabia. 'Bullet' found himself utterly outmatched by Page's unconventional fighting style, resulting in a one-sided decision loss. However, Magomedov claims that illness played a significant role in his performance that night.
In a recent interview, following a grappling draw against Arman Tsarukyan, Magomedov shared his plans for the upcoming year. He aims to make a statement by taking on an opponent outside the top 15 rankings, followed by a top 15 contender, and then, the ultimate goal: a rematch with Michael Page.
"This is a must," Magomedov emphasized. "I want to show the fans that my true potential was hindered by health issues. I need to prove that I can perform at my best."
After the Page loss, Magomedov revealed serious health concerns, including issues with his intestine, stomach, and bile duct, which caused him fear of vomiting during the fight. Despite this, 'Bullet' bounced back with a solid win over Marc-Andre Barriault and recently drew with top lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan.
The Tsarukyan bout, though, was more of a preview than a definitive showcase. Six minutes is simply not enough time to truly demonstrate one's skills. While it was a longer duration than many of Tsarukyan's previous ground battles, Magomedov doesn't view the draw as a moral victory.
"Some might consider it a success, but I don't," he said. "I went in there to win, and anyone who entertains the thought of losing has already lost. I believe I should have won that fight, but six minutes is definitely insufficient."
As for his return to the UFC, Magomedov's unique situation, with only one functional eye, limits his options. He can't fight in North America, so he'll have to wait for the UFC's next event in the Middle East.
"I think someone should get the fans excited with the first few events," he suggested. "And then I'll make my entrance and deliver the action and excitement the fans crave."
So, will Magomedov get his wish and face Page again? And if so, will he be able to prove his critics wrong and showcase his true abilities? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: this potential rematch is a hot topic among MMA fans and experts alike.
