Triple H's Entrance Theme Parody Mocks Sluggish SmackDown Ticket Sales
The WWE, known for celebrating record-breaking events, might have less to boast about with sluggish ticket sales for an upcoming SmackDown show. According to WrestleTix, WWE has sold fewer than 1,400 tickets for the December 19th SmackDown at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI, despite the arena's capacity of 12,000.
This apparent misstep has become a humorous opportunity for fans to mock the promotion, which has been criticized for pricing many out of the action.
On X, an account named Ceaser Wrestling posted a parody of Triple H's iconic theme, 'The Game,' with the lyrics 'It's time to lay the tarps' mocking the low ticket sales. The video features WWE lowlights, including tarps being laid at past shows, and takes a jab at Triple H and current Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes.
While WrestleTix reported over 10,000 tickets sold for the June SmackDown in Grand Rapids, the upcoming December show is a stark decline. This comes despite creative changes being made with SmackDown as a priority, as sources told Bodyslam.net.
However, other factors could be at play. The show's proximity to the holidays may make fans more cautious with their spending, and the high cost of standard WWE tickets could be a deterrent. Some fans may also wait to buy closer to the event, hoping for lower prices.
Despite strong third-quarter earnings, the WWE might be entering a quieter domestic period. The upcoming overseas tour in January, leading to the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, could create scarcity and boost sales when the company returns to the States.
